The LaboratoryRead about PI

Dr. Ruiz Macias uses human and mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs) as a model to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the acquisition (somatic cell reprogramming) and maintenance of pluripotency and self-renewal. These cell types represent a unique system to study the basis for unlimited growth and cell transformation, as well as to model disease in vitro and use them for the discovery of new drugs in specific differentiated cell types. In addition, he has recently showed that these cells are a great cellular platform in which to perform CRISPR/Cas9-based forward genetic screens.

Roles and Responsibilities

The applicant should have or about to have a PhD in Developmental Biology, Genetics or similar, and should have demonstrated expertise in mouse embryology and in vitro embryo manipulation. Knowledge on mammalian tissue culture, molecular biology and/or next generation sequencing technologies and computational biology will be considered as an advantage.

About You

We seek a highly motivated, creative individual, eager to learn and develop new technologies and complex cell systems based on live cell/embryo imaging, 3D modeling and CRISPR-based editing interested in understanding how a single cell can develop into a complex multicellular organism in vitro and in vivo.
